It was sponsored by the American Anthroposophical Society and was an offering arising from the work of the Section for the Literary Arts and Humanities of the School for Spiritual Science in North America.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Admittedly, most people probably haven&#8217;t heard or bothered with the early romantic German poet Friedrich von Hardenberg (Novalis), although this is not the case in anthroposophy, where Rudolf Steiner and Marie Steiner pioneered the anthroposophical movement upon the inspirations and guidance of Novalis. Yet, even in anthroposophy, Novalis poses problems for folks, and the question often arises: &#8220;Why Should I Care About Novalis?&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>In this ASA-sponsored Chrysalis course, I focused primarily on Rudolf Steiner&#8217;s reading of Novalis, rather than the literary Novalis &#8212; and I explained what I meant by that distinction in an attempt to answer the question &#8220;Why Should I Care About Novalis?&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>On this page you can find the edited video lectures from the four-session class, in addition to the resources that I posted for the class. gradually<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>the forces had to be matured and strengthened<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>that were designed to carry on our knowing.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>So was it that mankind in general<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>had slowly to unfold in course of time.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>In darkness lived at first those impulses<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>that later came to show themselves as worthy<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>to see the spirit-light from higher worlds.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>In those remotest days when earth began,<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>great spirits were sent down from higher worlds<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>to be the wise and watchful guides of men.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>They cultivated in the sanctuaries<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>those spirit-forces that could penetrate<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>mysteriously into the souls, who had<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>no conscious knowledge of their leaders.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>And later the wise masters found that they<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>could choose, from out the ranks of men, disciples<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>who, through renunciations and fierce tests,<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>had proved mature enough to be initiated<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>into the sacred wisdom of the mysteries.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>And when the pupils of the early masters<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>learned to protect the treasures worthily,<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>those mighty teachers took their way again<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>back to their own far-distant habitations.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>The pupils in their turn selected men<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>who could succeed them in the watchful care<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>of spirit treasures, so it went on further<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>through generations numberless to us.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>And to this day all genuine mystic schools<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>descend directly from that earliest one,<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>which was established by the higher spirits.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Humbly we cultivate within these walls<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>what has been left us by our ancestors.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Never will we assert that our own merits<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>deserve the offices that we now fill:<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>the lofty spirit-powers choose by grace<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>the feeble men they need as messengers,<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>and to them they entrust the precious treasures<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>that can unbind the spirit&#8217;s light in souls.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>And it is to these treasures, my dear friends,<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>that we must give you access at this time.<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>Auspicious are the signs that we can see<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong>with spirit-sight in the world&#8217;s destiny.&#8221;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 80px;\"><em><strong>&#8212;
